A College Romance by Kandi Steiner
Season 1 (episodes 1.1-1.6) of Palm South University series
There are 2 main candidates:
Bear (Clinton Pennington) belongs to Omega Chi Beta. He is super close with Skylar Thorne. He feels like an older brother to her. His family life is horrible. His mom and older brother are constantly hitting him up for money, most likely for drugs, and he always helps them out. They’re family. He does it for his nephews and little brother. He’s not connected to any of the female characters relationship-wise, but Bear is a good guy. There are hints that maybe there could possibly be more with Skylar in the future or maybe even another of the sorority sisters. Maybe in season 2.
Adam Brooks is a member of the Alpha Sigma fraternity. The frat has become somewhat of a joke and he has taken it upon himself to turn it around. I would also consider him a good guy, and the only reason he doesn’t get a higher rating from me is because he can’t decide between two girls: Skyler and Cassie. He kisses one, goes home with the other. Sleeps with one, SLEEPS with the other – if you know what I mean. By the end, he chooses one girl, but is still extremely protective and possessive of the other. He needs to make a decision!!
Strong Female Lead:
Cassie McBee is a freshman pledging a sorority with her best friend from high school. Early on Cassie realizes they have different ideas of what they want out of Greek life. Throughout the book, Cassie struggles with the separation it causes in this friendship. No worries, Cassie is not left friendless. The girls that become her sisters are very supportive and friendly. Cassie is a little naive and still learning who she wants to be. She crushes and experiments and is, overall, your typical college freshman.
Skyler Thorne is kickass. She is not your typical sorority girl. She spends most of her time in sweats and plays poker. She enters tournaments to win money to send back home to her family who is struggling financially. She does what she wants and doesn’t care what people think. She’s fun and flirty.
Jess Vonnegut doesn’t really care about rules. She sneaks out, sleeps with whoever she wants, and basically does her own thing. She’s there for her sisters, but doesn’t have the strong relationships that others have. She goes after what she wants and doesn’t care how her interactions affect others. She’s tough. Nothing really gets to her…until it does, which throws her for a loop.
Erin Xander is supposed to be at college to find a rich husband according to her parents. It was a struggle for her mom to even let her go. It’s not working so well. They call her Ex because she’s always somebody’s ex. She wants to do so much more. She’s a go-getter and is applying to get a position in her sorority that is usually only held by seniors. She knows one day she will be president which will buy her an extra semester on campus. She’s smart and kind and a great friend. She finds herself in an unlikely hookup towards the end of the book, and you’re really rooting for her. Who knows how it will turn out!
Ashlei is sneaking around. No one knows what is going on. While sneaking around, she gets mixed up with some not so great people and she easily gives into peer pressure. And it’s great. Until it gets out of control. Then it gets worse and she has to have her parents bail her out – without letting them know what is really going on. It’s all messed up. I would’ve rated her higher if she hadn’t given into the peer pressure! I know it’s college – and it’s hard not to give in even as an adult, poor girl. Hoping it works itself out in season 2.
Plot : 💋💋💋💋
The book reads like a TV show following seven different characters all involved in college Greek life. Each character is connected, but different. Sex. Drugs. Drama. These are constantly front and center for all of them. They all just want to fit in and find their way. From hookups and breakups and parties and class, you’re thrown right into the mix on campus. Several twists and turns along the way spice things up a bit.
Steamy Factor: 💋💋💋💋
There’s a whole lotta hookups in this one. Some are hot and some, not so much.
You need to go into this thinking like a TV show. There’s a whole lot of characters to keep track of. I caught myself having to check every once in awhile to see who each “chapter” was focusing on. I think because of this I didn’t have much of a connection to any characters, which is my favorite part of reading. The content definitely held my attention though. It was nonstop.
Book Summary from author:
Drama. Lies. Sex.
Welcome to Palm South University.
The weather isn’t the only thing heating up in South Florida. At a school where fraternities and sororities don’t exactly play by the rules, relationships are bound to be tested. Parties and sex are definitely key ingredients in the Palm South recipe, but what happens when family issues, secret lives, and unrequited love get tossed in the mix?
Follow Cassie, Bear, Jess, Skyler, Erin, Ashlei, and Adam as they tackle college at a small, private beach town university. Written in television drama form, each episode of this serial will pull you deeper and deeper into the world of PSU.
Where the sun is hot and the clothes are scarce, anything can happen.
