Paranormal Romance by Jennifer Armentrout
The Harbinger Series (book one)
Spin-off Series: The Dark Elements

Book Boyfriend: 💋💋💋💋
Zayne is an extremely attractive gargoyle/human that has already been through a lot in his short life.  He fell in love with a girl that loved him back but loved another being more. She ended up picking the other being and it crushed Zayne.  He also lost his father and only blood family he had left. Zayne is all about doing the right thing but the right thing doesn’t always follow the rules.  Or at least the rules they’ve been taught since birth. I feel like Zayne is lost and trying to find his purpose. He does in this book which was nice to see and I’m looking forward to how that continues to grow in the series.

Strong Female Lead: 💋💋💋💋💋
Trinity Marrow is one of a kind – in personality and paranormal being.  She is half human and half something else (I don’t want to ruin it for you) and she is the only one left of her kind.  Trinity has incredible power and strength which she has to temper down because only a select few know what she really is.  She also is going blind which makes her this bad ass chick with what could be a fatal flaw. Trinity is curious, outspoken and deeply loyal to those she loves.  She wants a normal teenage life but knows that is just not in the cards for her and accepts that fate with as much grace as she can. I love her spirit and strength but also her flaws and vulnerability.

Plot: 💋💋💋💋
I thought the plot was unique but found it funny that just 7 months later (after the Dark Elements series) the world is going to end again if the characters don’t stop this new supernatural being.  I do, however, like the addition of this new paranormal creature, Trinity, and trying to figure out just exactly what her other half is. I feel like her character was easy to connect with and highly entertaining.  The plot did a great job of building up and creating suspense with twists and turns and some things I never saw coming.

Steamy Factor: 💋.5
There is some steam but most heavy petting and making out.  And it takes awhile for that to happen so not a lot of action happening.

Overall: 💋💋💋💋.5
I loved the Dark Elements series and love that this is a spin-off of that.  I listened to this book on audible and had a hard time turning it off. I really enjoyed the storyline, the characters and the suspense building about not only what kind of paranormal being she was but also what kind the villain was.  The book keeps you entertained and there’s some depth there as well. I’m impatiently waiting for the next books in the series.

Book Summary from author:
Eighteen-year-old Trinity Marrow may be going blind, but she can see and communicate with ghosts and spirits. Her unique gift is part of a secret so dangerous that she’s been in hiding for years in an isolated compound fiercely guarded by Wardens—gargoyle shape-shifters who protect humankind from demons. If the demons discover the truth about Trinity, they’ll devour her, flesh and bone, to enhance their own powers.

When Wardens from another clan arrive with disturbing reports that something out there is killing both demons and Wardens, Trinity’s safe world implodes. Not the least because one of the outsiders is the most annoying and fascinating person she’s ever met. Zayne has secrets of his own that will upend her world yet again—but working together becomes imperative once demons breach the compound and Trinity’s secret comes to light. To save her family and maybe the world, she’ll have to put her trust in Zayne. But all bets are off as a supernatural war is unleashed…
