Standalone by Erin Watt

Book Boyfriend:đź’‹đź’‹đź’‹đź’‹
Chase Donnelly is considered the “bad boy.” He just returned from a stint in juvie. Everyone lets him know what they think of him and he just takes it. He tries to do the right thing. He wants a fresh start. He’s serious and gorgeous and has had a rough family life recently.

Strong Female Lead:đź’‹đź’‹đź’‹đź’‹
Beth Jones lost her sister in an accident 3 years ago. Ever since then she has been struggling to get out from under her parents’ strict rules enforced to keep her safe. She wants to go away to school. She loves animals. She’s still trying to figure out who she really is and the only way she knows how to do that is to go against her parents at every possible opportunity.

Plot:đź’‹đź’‹đź’‹đź’‹đź’‹
Beth’s parents are suffocating her. In a moment of “freedom” Beth goes to a neighboring high school’s party and loses her virginity. Come to find out that boy goes to her school and is the same one responsible for her sister’s accidental death. Beth struggles with her feelings regarding him. She should hate him, but she doesn’t. Her parents do. This story is about Beth trying to find herself and how her family fits together without her sister without losing her dreams.

Steamy Factor:đź’‹
Very little. Mentions of sex, but no descriptions. Stays true to YA.

Overall:đź’‹đź’‹đź’‹đź’‹
I love Erin Watt. Although this wasn’t my favorite book, I still really enjoyed it. It did frustrate me at times, but overall did not disappoint!

Book Summary from author:
Beth’s life hasn’t been the same since her sister died. Her parents try to lock her down, believing they can keep her safe by monitoring her every move. When Beth sneaks out to a party one night and meets the new guy in town, Chase, she’s thrilled to make a secret friend. It seems a small thing, just for her.

Only Beth doesn’t know how big her secret really is…

Fresh out of juvie and determined to start his life over, Chase has demons to face and much to atone for, including his part in the night Beth’s sister died. Beth, who has more reason than anyone to despise him, is willing to give him a second chance. A forbidden romance is the last thing either of them planned for senior year, but the more time they spend together, the deeper their feelings get.

Now Beth has a choice to make—follow the rules, or risk tearing everything apart…again.
